Back in March, we reported that Felicity Jones is the first confirmed cast member for Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, the first in a series of Star Wars spinoffs. Today we have word that two more actors are close to signing on, with Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler) in talks to star and Sam Claflin being eyed for a leading role. Badass Digest also reports that Ben Mendelsohn, who was rumored to be in talks last month, has signed on as well, although it has yet to be confirmed.
It was confirmed last week that the story centers on a group of "resistance fighters" who embark on a mission to steal plans for the original Death Star. The story takes place in the years between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Badass Digest also reports that the movie has a "big main cast," comparing it to massive ensembles such as The Dirty Dozen and The Magnificent Seven.
Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is directing from a screenplay originally written by Gary Whitta, which was rewritten by Chris Weitz. Production is scheduled to begin sometime within the next two months, so expect many more cast members to be announced in the near future. Riz Ahmed recently starred in Nightcrawler, Closed Circuit and The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Sam Claflin reprises his role as Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, arriving in theaters this November.
