Just two weeks after Disney confirmed that actress Felicity Jones is the first cast member in their Star Wars spinoff entitled Rogue One, a new casting addition may have entered the fray. Deadline reports that Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn, who currently stars on the Netflix series Bloodline, is circling a lead role in Rogue One. Naturally, no character details were given and Disney would not confirm nor deny the casting.

No plot details have been revealed, but there have been a slew of rumors regarding the plot. It is rumored that the story follows a group of bounty hunters or pirates trying to steal the plans for the first Death Star. There have also been reports that Harrison Ford's Han Solo may be involved in the story, but that has not been confirmed either. With Star Wars Celebration coming up next month in Anaheim, it's possible that Disney and LucasFilm could reveal more about this spinoff then, but the project wasn't listed on the official schedule of events.

Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is directing from a screenplay by Chris Weitz, which was originally worked on by Gary Whitta. Disney has already set a December 16, 2016 release date for Rogue One, although it isn't known when production may begin. Ben Mendelsohn is best known for performances in Animal Kingdom, Killing Them Softly, The Place Beyond the Pines and, most recently, Exodus: Gods and Kings and Black Sea. He will next be seen in Lost River, in theaters April 10, and Slow West, debuting May 15.
