Earlier today, LucasFilm announced that Josh Trank is directing the second spin-off that will come between the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, which kicks off next year with Star Wars: Episode VII. The filmmaker said in a statement that the original Star Wars trilogy defined his entire childhood, and the franchise's influence can also be seen in his short film Stabbing at Leia's, which Josh Trank posted on his YouTube page back in 2007. Check out both the censored and uncensored version, which features R-rated language, then read on for more information.

Back in January 2012, a month before Josh Trank's directorial debut Chronicle hit theaters, the director showed select press members this short film, which he revealed was instrumental in helping him win the Chronicle directing gig. Stabbing at Leia's 22nd Birthday may very well have helped him land the spin-off directing gig as well, but we likely won't know for sure for quite some time.

Josh Trank is currently in production on 20th Century Fox's The Fantastic Four reboot, and he is also attached to direct Shadow of the Colossus for Sony Pictures. It isn't known when production may begin on the Star Wars spin-off.
