After a number of secretive tests and readings, Disney has chosen Felicity Jones to be the female lead in their Untitled Gareth Edwards Directed Star Wars Spin-Off, despite an unconfirmed report from last week that indicated Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany had already been cast. No deal has been solidified yet, but Felicity Jones is in early talks for the role, beating out Maslany and other actresses such as Rooney Mara and Kate Mara. No details regarding the female lead character were revealed.

The Hollywood Reporter also reports that actors Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez are among those Disney is interested for the male lead, although that has not been confirmed by Disney. Aaron Paul had been rumored to star in the spinoff since late December, claims the actor neither confirmed nor denied in a tweet from last month.

The only confirmed information we have about the spinoff is that Gareth Edwards is directing from a script originally written by Gary Whitta, which is now being rewritten by Chris Weitz. The story has been rumored to center on a group of space pirates, including a young Han Solo, as they try to steal plans for the original Death Star. Another report from earlier today revealed that the female lead will actually be Sabine Wren, the Mandalorian weapons expert and graffiti artist from the animated TV series Star Wars Rebels.

Felicity Jones was recently nominated for an Oscar for her performance in The Theory of Everything. She also stars in True Story, alongside Jonah Hill and James Franco, which hits theaters on April 10. She is also set to star in Inferno and A Monster Calls, which are both set for release in 2016.
