Stargirl, Jerry Spinelli's seminal young-adult novel, has been optioned for the big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Montecito Pictures and the Gotham Group will be producing the film.

The novel revolves around an eccentric vegan by the name of Stargirl Caraway. She is a compassionate high school girl who lives in Arizona. Spinelli's work is taught in schools nationwide. It has been described as a bittersweet love story.

Producers Jeff Clifford and Joe Medchuk are currently shopping for writers and a director.
