Director Stephen Frears has joined forces with writer D.V. DeVincentis to bring the English-language adaptation The Bengali Detective to the big screen. The two have previously worked together on Lay the Favorite and High Fidelity.

Philip Cox directed the original followed intrepid private eye Rajesh Ji as he explores Calcutta's criminal underworld while pursuing his dream to dance on Indian TV. Film took a look at modern India through the eyes of an unlikely hero.

Ridley Scott and Tony Scott are set to produce.

The film is in development and no other details have been released.
