Stephen Gaghan has struck a deal with Fox to write an adaptation of a Swedish crime novel series. The project will be a 20th Century Fox TV production.

The project will revolve around the main character in the novels, Evert Backstrom, a cynical, racist, sexist and homophobic cop with a drinking problem who is disliked by many of his colleagues. Two books in the series have been published so far, Linda and He Who Kills the Dragon. A third book in the series is soon to come.

Leif G.W. Persson wrote the novels on which the series is based. Stephen Gaghan is better known for his silver screen projects, but he is breaking through to television with Sila, another police drama pilot earlier this year.

No production date or casting details have been released.
