Steve Carell has signed on to star in the upcoming comedy Brigadier Gerard. According to The Hollywood Reporter, King of the Hill staff writers John Altshuler and David Krinsky will pen the screenplay based on a series of short stories from author Arthur Conan Doyle.

The plot of the film will revolve around a French solider in the Napoleonic wars that is deluded about his level of bravery. Carrel will play Etienne Gerard, a gallant swordsman whose actual skills often pale in comparison to his own conception of them. The project is said to showcase the kind of clueless-man comedy Carell is so well known for.

Producers are currently seeking a director. A start date has not yet been set.
