Steve Martin is one of the most well-known and beloved actors ever to reach the pinnacle of Hollywood success. Martin starred in countless films, and TV shows across his five-decade career, including The Jerk, Pink Panther, Cheaper by the Dozen, and Father of the Bride. Most recently, he's starred in Only Murders in the Building alongside frequent collaborator Martin Short and Selena Gomez. In addition, Martin received an honorary award in 2014 at the Academy Awards in recognition of his extraordinary talents and the unique inspiration he brought to cinema.

Last month, reports surfaced suggesting Martin would retire following the end of Only Murders in the Building; however, the actor is clarifying his previous statement to People while walking the red carpet of the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards. "It's a little overstated," Martin said regarding his retirement. "They asked me, 'Do you think about retirement?' I said, 'Well this is it. I'm doing a television show, I've got a book coming out and I'm touring with [Short]. That kind of is my retirement — that's what it's going to look like.'"

During his initial interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin clarified that the reason for stepping away from the spotlight and larger projects is his family life.

"I have a family life that's really fun." He continues, "To film a movie now, to go someplace else to live, I'm not willing to do that anymore. I can't disappear for three months." Martin says if anything, he will take a little less work. "My wife [Anne Stringfield] keeps saying, 'You always say you're going to retire and then you always come up with something.' I'm not really interested in retiring. I'm not. But I would just work a little less. Maybe."
