With Tintin on the backburner ever since Universal declined to provide funding for the project, DreamWorks has now picked up the rights to late author John Wyndham’s science fiction classic Chocky for Steven Spielberg to direct as his next project. According to Variety, it isn’t clear whether Paramount or the recently independent DreamWorks will produce the film.
The story follows the adventures of a boy and his mysterious imaginary friend, with whom he often argues. With the father suspicious of his son's disturbing behavior, it becomes obvious that an alien life form has taken up residency inside the young boy’s mind.
The film doesn’t have a set start date, but there is speculation that if Spielberg finds his needed cash for the Motion Capture project Tintin, he may direct both of these moviess at the same time.
