Earlier this month, we reported that Showtime, Microsoft's XBox Entertainment Studios and executive producer Steven Spielberg are teaming up for a new Halo TV series. Today, Microsoft and 343 Studios revealed that the series will debut in the fall of 2015, alongside the launch of their new video game, Halo 5: Guardians.

Here's what 343 Studios general manager Bonnie Ross had to say on an XBox Wire blog post.

And 2015 won't simply be the year of Halo 5: Guardians, it will also be a year that offers us a unique opportunity. The opportunity to invite old friends and new audiences into that universe through the Halo television series, launched as a unique collaboration with Steven Spielberg and some of the finest creative minds in the business. A series that will stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience. We'll have more to share on the Halo television series as we near its projected fall 2015 release."

Our report from earlier this month revealed that Microsoft and 343 are securing two showrunners to develop an expansive series bible developed by Stuart Beattie (I, Frankenstein). Bonnie Ross also noted that more details will be revealed during the E3 Convention on June 9 in Los Angeles.

Microsoft is separately developing a Halo digital feature film, which will be produced by Ridley Scott, with Sergio Mimica-Gezzan set to direct from a screenplay by Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring. The feature will follow the same format as the digital series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, and it will not center on the game's main protagonist, Master Chief.
