In a massive poster drop today, Paramount+ confirmed its commitment to a diverse array of programming for viewers of all ages and creeds, as well as reminding Trekkies of the exciting new series arriving at the platform soon. Among the mountain of diverse streaming content, the company also reminded its viewers of the exciting new series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the newest show in the Alex Kurtzman-helmed Star Trek Universe, premiering May 5th, 2022, with new episodes dropping weekly. The Star Trek: Discovery spin-off has already received so much buzz that it has been renewed for a second season ahead of its premiere. So it should come as no surprise that Paramount+ included the highly-anticipated series in today's promotional material. Along with a poster of a Starfleet officer home, home on the range, Paramount+ tweeted out, "The @StarTrek universe is expanding on #ParamountPlus. We’re premiering a brand-new series, #StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds on May 5, starring @AnsonMount as Captain Pike." However, the streamer offered little other new information to the Star Trek fandom, who has been waiting for the trailer drop like a Cardassian misses cake.

In May 2020, CBS All Access first announced the series order for the Star Trek prequel Strange New Worlds, based on the years' Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Set a decade before Captain Kirk boarded the Enterprise, the series follows Captain Pike, Number One (Rebecca Romijn), and Science Officer "Mr." Spock (Ethan Peck) as they explore new worlds around the galaxy. Alongside them will be franchise newcomers Celia Rose Gooding in the iconic role of Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, Babs Olusanmokun as Doctor M’Benga, Christina Chong as Laan Noonien-Singh, and Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel (originated by Majel Barrett on Star Trek: The Original Series).

“Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck’s portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek: Discovery last season,” said Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming, CBS All Access, in a press release. “This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek.”

The May 5th series premiere was written by Akiva Goldsman with the story by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. “This is a dream come true, literally,” said Goldsman. “I have imagined myself on the bridge of the Enterprise since the early 1970s. I’m honored to be a part of this continuing journey along with Alex, Henry and the fine folks at CBS.”

Goldsman, Kurtzman and Lumet will serve as executive producers on Strange New Worlds in addition to Henry Alonso Myers, Rod Roddenberry, Heather Kadin, and Trevor Roth. In the co-executive producer seats, the show has Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper, and Davy Perez. The series will be produced by CBS Television Studios, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment.
