From the director and co-writer of Raya and the Last Dragon comes Disney's upcoming action-adventure film Strange World. Disney Animation has revealed the first look of the film in the form of a concept art on their official Instagram handle. Strange World is set to hit the theatres in Thanksgiving 2022.

From the looks of the concept art, it seems fans will be taken to yet another magical world with endless possibilities. The original action-adventure journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await. The story revolves around the Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest and by far most crucial mission.

The colorful and dangerous world of unknown creatures featured in Strange World is a nod to the adventure stories published in pulp magazines, which were popular fiction from the first half of the 20th century that was printed on inexpensive wood pulp paper. According to director Don Hall.

I loved reading the old issues of pulps growing up... They were big adventures in which a group of explorers might discover a hidden world or ancient creatures. They’ve been a huge inspiration for ‘Strange World.’

Don Hall is at the helm of the project as the director, with Qui Nguyen being the writer and co-director of the film. The Hall-Nguyen duo previously worked together on this year's adventure fantasy film Raya and The Last Dragon, starring Kelly Marie Tran and the comedian/rapper Awkwafina. However, Hall is perhaps best known for directing Disney's Oscar-winning sci-fi animated film Big Hero 6, starring Scott Adsit and Ryan Potter. He also directed the 2011 film Winnie the Pooh, along with Stephen Anderson.

Qui Nguyen, who was the co-writer of Raya and The Last Dragon has had a lot of exciting releases outside of Disney as well. Nguyen was the writer for AMC's Dispatches from Elsewhere, a drama that follows four ordinary people who are brought together by chance after they all respond to a flyer. He also wrote the Netflix drama The Society, which can loosely be called a modern take on Lord of the Flies, and Syfy's Incorporated, starring Sean Teale.

Strange World will be produced by Roy Conli, who previously worked with Hall in Big hero 6. He was the producer of the 2011 Disney film Tangled as well.

In keeping with the recent Disney tradition of releasing films during Thanksgiving (Moana in 2016, and Coco in 2017), Strange World will release on November 23, 2022.
