Walt Disney Studios has released the official trailer for the new animated movie Strange World. The film, which will be coming to theaters on Nov. 23, follows three generations of a family uniting for a thrilling adventure. You can get a sneak peek at the movie by watching the new trailer below.

Per Disney, Strange World introduces "a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob, a three-legged dog and a slew of ravenous creatures."

"Inspired by classic adventure stories, Strange World is an original animated adventure/comedy about three generations of the Clade family who overcome their differences while exploring a strange, wondrous and oftentimes hostile world," director Don Hall says of the film.

Leading the voice cast is Jake Gyllenhaal as Searcher Clade, a family man who finds himself out of his element on an unpredictable mission; Dennis Quaid as Searcher’s larger-than-life explorer father, Jaeger; Jaboukie Young-White as Searcher’s 16-year-old son, Ethan, who longs for adventure; Gabrielle Union as Meridian Clade, an accomplished pilot and Searcher’s partner in all things; and Lucy Liu as Callisto Mal, Avalonia’s fearless leader who spearheads the exploration into the strange world.

Hall (Big Hero 6, Raya and the Last Dragon) co-directs Strange World with writer Qui Nguyen (co-writer Raya and the Last Dragon). The film is produced by Roy Conli (Big Hero 6, Tangled).

Speaking about the movie at Disney's D23 Expo, voice actor Jake Gyllenhaal explained why he was drawn to this particular project. Based on the work of the directors, along with the film's focus on family, had made it a no-brainer for him to get involved. He was able to relate to the story based on the relationships he has with his own family members.

"As soon as Don and Qui pitched it to me, I was moved, like I cried," Gyllenhaal told Screen Rant. "I think, for me, I'm very close to my family. As I get older, you know, the generations of our family, the understandings and misunderstandings of each other are sort of what make up so much of our lives. And that's what this movie is about. All of those misunderstandings, and we think we've changed when we haven't, and where we think we are, but we need our family to remind us of where we actually are, and to be right sometimes and be wrong sometimes. It's pretty great, this story."

Strange World will be released in movie theaters on Nov. 23, 2022.
