Netflix released a Stranger Things Season 2 teaser and poster yesterday, confirming that the highly-anticipated return happens on Friday, October 27, giving fans just enough time to binge the new episodes before Halloween. The streaming service also released a strange timeline featuring a few key events in Hawkins, Indiana, and in the life of Police Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour), which may offer clues to the troubled sheriff's secret past. There will be potential SPOILERS if you haven't seen the first season of Stranger Things, so read on at your own risk.

The events of this timeline start in the year 1953, when MKUltra first surfaced in Hawkins, Indiana to begin their experiments on "special" children. 26 years later in 1979, Police Chief Jim Hopper returned to his hometown of Hawkins. On November 6, 1983, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) disappeared, the event that drives the series throughout the first season, and just two days later on November 8, 1983, Barbara Holland (Shannon Purser) went missing. The timeline strangely continues with the July 15, 2016 premiere date for Stranger Things Season 1, and ends with the October 27, 2017 premiere date for Stranger Things Season 2. Nerdist breaks down this timeline, hinting that the answers regarding Jim Hopper's past may have been hiding in plain sight during the first season.

We saw in the first season that Sheriff Hopper cut a deal with MKUltra, so he could make it look like he was trying to "save" Will Byers in front of his distraught mother Joyce (Winona Ryder). Nerdist speculates that Hopper may have ties to MKUltra that even he himself is unaware of. We learned in the first season that Hopper had a daughter that he lost to cancer, after receiving an experimental treatment for her ailment. The site speculates that Hopper's daughter was one of MKUltra's earlier experimental victims, while an even wilder theory is that she is actually still alive, with the organization faking her death to put some separation between her father and their work. MKUltra did in fact try to fake Will's death with a false body, likely to get the Byers family from snooping around their work.

The site also brings up a brief scene from the Stranger Things Super Bowl trailer, where Hopper is seen digging up something, although it isn't quite seen what he is digging. If the theory that Hopper's daughter is still alive is true, perhaps he finds out, and this scene is actually Hopper digging up his daughter's grave, to see if there is actually anything there or not. Naturally, that hasn't been confirmed, and even if she is alive, it's possible that Hopper may not even recognize his own daughter. Regardless, we'll find out what Hopper is digging soon enough when the new season debuts on Netflix. Now, wait for it...What is Barb is Sheriff Hobbs daughter...Nah, never happen.

This season is set one year after the first season, in 1984, and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demagorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived. One of the few Season 1 cast members who won't be coming back has become a cultural sensation, Shannon Purser, whose Barb character suffered a horrific death in the Upside Down, a death that has spawned a "Justice For Barb" movement of sorts. David Harbour hinted in a recent interview that there will be justice for Barb, whose death was overlooked as the whole town focused on finding Will Byers. The Stranger Things cast and crew will be descending upon Comic-Con in a few weeks, so hopefully we'll find out more about the new season then.
