Last week, we showed you a new cast photo of all the young stars from Netflix's Stranger Things Season 2, with production about to get under way on the highly-anticipated series. Today we have word that three new cast members have come aboard, Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, and Linnea Berthelsen. These actors will be playing important characters that are close to the mysterious events that unfolded in Hawkins, Indiana in the first season.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen is playing "an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child." Roman doesn't actually live in Hawkins, but she is said to be "mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab." It isn't known if she will also have a connection to the character Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), who will also return this season.

Sean Astin is playing Bob Newby, who is described as "a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack." Sean Astin's character may come into play since the kids are often seen using walkie-talkie's and other electronic devices. This piece of casting is also seen as another nod to Sean Astin's classic film The Goonies, one of the many 1980s films that influenced Stranger Things.

Paul Reiser is playing Dr. Owens, described as "a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a 'clean-up' assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year." It's possible that Dr. Owens could be one of the main villains this season, especially since it was never confirmed if Matthew Modine's Dr. Brenner will be back in Season 2. Series creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer have teased in the past that Stranger Things Season 2 will feel more like a movie sequel, listing James Cameron's Aliens, which starred Paul Reiser, as another movie that inspired this season.

Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, and Linnea Berthelsen join fellow new cast members Dacre Montgomery and Sadie Sink, who play step-siblings Billy and Max. Billy is described as "edgy and overly confident," with a "violent and unpredictable nature". His hobbies include stealing girlfriends away from their longtime boyfriends, playing drinking games and driving his black Camaro. Max is described as a skater girl who is tough and confident, but she also has a "complicated history" and is suspicious of everyone in her life. Hopefully we'll get even more casting updates on Stranger Things Season 2 in the very near future.
