There are now over 1000 different Pokémon, and almost all of them show up in movies or the TV show at some point.

It is easy to see which of the Pokémon are the strongest in the games, based on their stats, but that power doesn't translate easily to the animated films. However, there are some legendary Pokémon that definitely stand out as more powerful than others in the movies.

9 Jirachi (Pokémon: Jirachi-Wish Maker)

Jirachi is an adorable and small legendary Pokémon. In the movie, it is seen as a kind and empathetic creature that grants wishes.

After granting wishes, it usually has to hibernate for a long amount of time, by this doesn't make it powerless. Even as it sleeps, it has the ability to fight back.

However, its powers depend heavily on who uses it. The three wishes it grants can be used for evil, and in the manga, we see that this is how Kyogre and Groudon are created. This makes it a potentially evil Pokémon if used incorrectly.

8 Darkrai (Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai)

Darkrai is the legendary Pokémon of dreams and nightmares. It has the ability to manipulate the dreams of every living creature, both Pokémon and humans.

Some lore says that it is done on accident when it is seen by others, as it is reclusive. In many of the movies, and some of the games, it is seen as being evil, with a Pokémon known as Cresselia being its opposite, but it isn't often evil, and often wants to help.

It is a fairly intelligent Pokémon and can actually speak, but usually just wants to be left alone and will do anything to stay away from others.

7 Dialga (Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai)

Dialga is one of the three of the Creation Trio, which was created by a Pokémon known as Arceus. It is one of the first dragon and steel types, which is one of the strongest combinations out there, especially at the time it was revealed.

Dialga is in control of time. Some people think based on the facts that it isn't completely aware of the impact it has on time, but it can control it. But it can completely warp through time and travel anywhere it wants. It can also send any other Pokémon or creature it wants through time, both forward and back.

6 Palkia (Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai)

Palkia, like Dialga, was created by Arceus as one of the Creation Trio. It has the ability to warp space, though it has also been said to create various alternate realities.

It doesn't appear in the Pokémon universe often, as it primarily lives in an alternate realm, but when it does appear, it is usually to fight with Dialga. It is one of the smartest Pokémon, if not the smartest, beating even canonically intelligent ones like Mewtwo.

5 Genesect (Genesect and the Legend Awakened)

Not much is known about Genesect. We do know that in the movie, Genesect was already considered to be a ruthless killer and hunter, and their strength only grew when Team Plasma added a cannon on its back.

Like Mewtwo, it was a Pokémon that was created by an evil team and made to be evil and stronger than their original version.

It is the only legendary Pokémon that is a bug type, but that doesn't make it weak by any means.

4 Giratina (Pokémon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior)

Giratina is one of the Creation Trio Pokemon, along with Dialga and Palkia. It was said to be the opposite of Arceus, though it was created by him. Many people equate him to the fallen angel from the Bible.

It supposedly lives in the opposite realm, called the distortion world or reverse world, but can cross over. It was originally banished for being excessively violent and territorial, but we can see in the movie that it has a gentle side as well.

3 Mewtwo (Pokémon: The First Movie)

Mewtwo, despite being another one of the first legendary Pokémon, is still considered one of the strongest of the whole series.

Mewtwo is known as the Genetic Pokémon. It came about from experimentation of Mew's DNA but bred to be stronger by Team Rocket. He is one of the only Pokemon that has the ability to talk to humans.

Not only is he incredibly powerful, but he is smart as well, and even managed to make his own clones that were engineered to be stronger.

2 Mew (Pokémon: The First Movie)

Mew is one of the first legendary Pokémon, and is arguably one of the most recognized. In the game, it is powerful as there isn't really a limit on what moves it can use, but we can see more of its power in the movies.

Strangely, though Mew is legendary and rare, it isn't one-of-a-kind. There have been fossils of the Pokémon as well as the living one we see in the movie. While a definitive number hasn't been released, there is an assumption that there is more than one.

So what makes Mew so powerful? The Pokémon remains a mystery, and there are a lot of arguments. For example, it was said to be the main Pokémon that all others come from, while others claim it is actually the creator of the Pokémon universe instead of Arceus.

1 Arceus (Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life)

Arceus has to be at the very top of the list. It is considered the creator of the Pokémon universe. While it specifically made the region of Sinnoh, many argue that it is responsible for all creation. It also has the power to bring anything back to life and even freeze time.

It also made many of the other legendary Pokémon, including the Creation Trio, Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina. If that wasn't enough, it has the ability to turn into any type of Pokémon it wants.
