According to Variety, it seems that Universal, Paramount, New Regency and MGM are fighting for the rights for an EA video game that is still in the unannounced stage. At present it doesn't even have a verified name.

Apparently, Warner Bros. was in contention for the rights but they left the game early on Thursday.

This phantom game will be launching in 2009 and it "involves a journey through the depths of hell." The most popular title for this game is currently Dante's Inferno. All publishing rights have been cleared to use that title.

It seems that hopes for this game are so high the studios are willing to throw caution to the wind as they pursue it. They haven't seen sales, reviews or any concrete evidence that this game even has an audience.
