The late Sid Haig appears in our exclusive trailer for the new film Suicide for Beginners. Though the late horror legend passed away in 2019, he had previously completed his work on Suicide for Beginners, and his posthumous appearance serves as one of his final film roles. As the title would suggest, it's a rather dark comedy, but that's certainly not something that would've bothered Haig. You can watch the trailer below ahead of the movie's release on May 6, 2022.

Suicide for Beginners is directed by Craig Thieman and written by Thieman and Ethan Hunter. The film stars Wil Daniels, Sara Tomko, Nate Panning, Julia Lehman, Sid Haig, Christian Rozakis, and Simon Crist. It is a collaboration between Inspire Productions, 207 Pictures, and Hank and Jed Movie Pictures. You can read the official synopsis below.

"Writing the perfect suicide note isn't easy. Murdering a garage full of people is also pretty hard. But getting your victims to like you while you kill them, that's the really tricky part."

Suicide for Beginners Has Been in the Works For Many Years

Per Star News Online, director Craig Thieman previously spoke about how difficult it was to get the movie released. The film began its journey as a short film called Love Letter that was released to acclaim in 2007. Its success inspired Thieman to pursue a feature-length version of the story. The biggest challenge came with raising funds for the budget, resulting in a Kickstarter raising over $40,000 to contribute to the project. Additional years have been spent obtaining more money from investors to add to the post-production process, with color correction, editing, and everything else that needs to be finished in post.

"I'm glad we're finally going to get it out," producer Tim Parker explained, having been there for the journey. Unfortunately, the lengthy production process meant that Sid Haig wasn't able to see the final result before his passing. Though he likely made the comment in jest, Haig also predicted that Suicide for Beginners wouldn't come out until after his death.

"Someone saw Sid at some comic book convention or something. He asked them if the (expletive) movie was going to come out before he died," Parker said.

Sid Haig was a veteran actor who was well known to horror fans for his work in Rob Zombie's films, specifically as the iconic character Captain Spaulding in House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, and 3 from Hell; Haig died just days after 3 from Hell was released, making it his final movie released during his lifetime. He had also been working frequently in other genre films in the years leading up to his passing, such as Bone Tomahawk, Death House, and Hanukkah. Haig will also appear in the upcoming horror Abruptio with other legends like Robert Englund, Jordan Peele, and James Marsters.

Because Haig is still badly missed by fans, it's nice to see the unique actor delivering one more one-of-a-kind performance in the way that only he could. Suicide for Beginners will be released on May 6, 2022, courtesy of Vertical Entertainment.
