Idris Elba is reportedly going to play The Bronze Tiger in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. The movie is currently in the casting phase and preparing to begin production soon. Gunn is excited to finally get to work on the project, which is inspired by John Ostrander's Suicide Squad comics. It was believed for a while that the upcoming movie won't be a direct sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad, but the director has been playing coy with that information lately and won't confirm nor deny anything.

Idris Elba was originally thought to be playing Deadshot in The Suicide Squad, but that was later debunked. Now, it is believed he is playing The Bronze Tiger, aka Ben Turner. The character was first introduced in 1975 and has been played most recently by Michael Jai White on The CW's Arrow. With that being said, this is still a rumor for the time being since it has not been officially confirmed.

It is also believed Benicio Del Toro is in talks to play the main antagonist in The Suicide Squad. The character is known as the General, aka The Mayor, though it is unclear if this will be the final name of the villain when all is said and done. James Gunn and Del Toro have yet to respond to the casting reports, but the two already have a working relationship from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, so it would make sense.

In addition to Idris Elba's role and the possibility of Benicio Del Toro joining the cast of The Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, and Joel Kinnaman are returning to reprise their roles from the first installment. Plus, David Dastmalchian has been confirmed as Polka-Dot Man and Daniela Melchior is playing Ratcatcher. John Cena is also reportedly involved with the project.

Benicio Del Toro would be a welcome addition to The Suicide Squad, but this isn't the first time that Guardians of the Galaxy members have been thrown around to join the movie. Dave Bautista was reportedly on board at the very beginning and John Cena might be taking over his role. Del Toro's character is being described as an "irascible old warrior who lives for war."

The Suicide Squad is all set to hit theaters on August 6th, 2021, so production is going to have to begin sooner than later. Afterwards, James Gunn will start work on the long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which was put on indefinite hold after Disney fired Gunn last summer. He has since been reinstated, but his DCEU work comes first. It is believed the third and final installment will focus more on Rocket Raccoon, who is Gunn's favorite character from the series. The casting news was first reported by Forbes.
