Almost as soon as Suicide Squad was officially announced as part of Warner Bros.' huge DC Movie lineup, casting rumors began to come in fast and furious. One of the first said to be in talks for the movie was Margot Robbie. Collier want to confirm that the actress has officially signed on as infamous villain Harley Quinn, though Warner Bros. and DC refuse to comment.

This would match up with reports that director David Ayer is intent on taking the existing script and adding more iconic villains. Just as the weekend was getting underway, it was widely reported that Jared Leto is being sought as The Joker. Harley Quinn was originally introduced as the Joker's girlfriend and henchwoman in the Batman Animated series, making her first appearance, oddly enough, on September 11, 1992. She has gone onto become one of the more popular villains in the DC Comics world, and this will be the first time she has been depicted on the big screen.

Suicide Squad has been described as The Dirty Dozen with super villains. Also said to be in various stages of discussions for the movie are Will Smith and Tom Hardy. Model turned actress Cara Delevigne was originally rumored to be up for Harley Quinn, while it was never known which character Margot Robbie was being eyed for. It is not known if Cara Delevigne is still up for the project in a different role, though she, herself, made it known on Instagram that Harley Quinn was the character she was interested in taking on. Ryan Gosling was originally up for the role of the Joker, but refused to sign on for multiple movies.

Jesse Eisenberg is expected to reprise his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice role as Lex Luthor, which will directly tie the two films together. The movie was originally set to include a number of more obscure villain characters who take on a do-or-die mission for the government. Characters said to be appearing include Blockbuster (Mark Desmond), Multiplex (Danton Black), Jaculi, Mindboggler (Leah Wasserman), Captain Boomerang (George Harkness), Vixen (Mari Jiwe McCabe) and Deadshot (Floyd Lawton), with Captain Boomerang, Vixen and Deadshot as the leads. That has apparently changed, as David Ayer sets out to incorporate some of DC's most iconic villains, putting them on screen together for the first time. It has also been rumored that The Joker may be the main villain the others are going up against.

Harley Quinn is known for wearing a jester's hood with black and white make-up. It is not known how grounded David Ayer plans on making the character or how she will be changed for the big screen. Margot Robbie grabbed widespread attention for her role in last year's The Wolf of Wall Street. She next appears with possible Suicide Squad co-star Will Smith in the con man thriller Focus and is playing Jane in the latest big screen reimagining of Tarzan.
