This year marks the start of Marvel's Phase Three with the arrival of Captain America: Civil War in theaters May 6. Warner Bros. will launch their own DC Comics universe with two new adventures, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25) and Suicide Squad (August 5). USA Today debuted a new Suicide Squad photo, with director David Ayer, who revealed he knows how important the movie is to fans.
"For me, it's a little more than just dropping a cut scene in the end credits to link projects. You really have to be thinking three movies downrange and how today's movie will impact more later-cycle projects. We all need good guys and everything - yay, good guys - but at the end of the day, they're kinda boring. They're always going to do the right thing. When you're dealing with the baddies, it's easy to get ahead of the audience and invert expectations."
We also know that Batman v Superman star Ben Affleck will reprise his role as Batman inSuicide Squad. While we still don't know how large his role is in the movie, we have seen him riding on top of The Joker's car in several set videos and photos while production was under way in Toronto. Here's what the director had to say bot shooting these scenes.
"We made him fight. He's awesome (as Batman). ... You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world."
Before Suicide Squad hits theaters this summer, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will kick start this shared universe in just a few months. The site also spoke with director Zack Snyder, who essentially confirmed a long-held rumor that all of the Justice League members will unite in this movie, before Justice League Part 1 arrives in 2017.
"I love Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman, but having Flash and Aquaman and Cyborg and to see them all standing together, it's a pretty dorky and cool experience for me. Basically every one of those characters has a logo that you would recognize without them standing there, and that's a hard thing to achieve in this pop-culture world. We have history to draw on, but we also have these new frontiers to forge. It's our belief and our goal to honor the legacy of the studio with a batch of films that speaks to that world."
The superhero stand-off that the world has been waiting for is finally arriving in cinemas, with an all-star cast bringing to life the characters we all love. Zack Snyder (300) returns as director following the huge success of 2013's Man of Steel, along with Henry Cavill in the role of Superman. Also starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is an explosive, action-packed blockbuster that is sure to thrill DC fans everywhere.
