Last month, we reported that Viola Davis has been offered the role of Amanda Waller in Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated DC Comics adaptation Suicide Squad, although the schedule still needs to be worked out with her hit ABC TV series How to Get Away with Murder. While doing press for her upcoming cyber-thriller Blackhat, in theaters next week, Viola Davis confirmed that she is still working out her schedule, but the Amanda Waller character fascinates her.

"I have not started reading [the comic book source material] yet. I've read up about her but I'm working out my schedule for Suicide Squad. I'm fascinated by her. I'm fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She's this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I'm fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I'm excited to pick up a gun."

Along with her new TV series, the actress is best known for her Oscar-nominated turns in dramas Doubt and The Help, although she revealed that her role in Blackhat helped get her in the right mindset for all the action that Suicide Squad will have to offer.

"You know, I've done action before but I guess a lot of those scenes were cut in movies. Yeah, [Blackhat] was good research because I certainly had to do a lot of it."

Viola Davis joins Will Smith (Deadshot), Tom Hardy (Rick Flagg), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Boomerang) and Cara Delevingne (Enchantress) in Suicide Squad, with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg also rumored to reprise his role as Lex Luthor. Production is scheduled to begin this April, with an August 5, 2016 release date already set. Are you excited to see Viola Davis portray Amanda Waller? Chime in with your thoughts below.
