In a rare move for a DC Comics owned property, Summit Entertainment has acquired the movie rights to the DC/Wildstorm title Red, written by Warren Ellis. The Hollywood Reporter says that while this is the first time a DC Comics title has left the Time Warner family, DC will remain an active part of the adaptation, with DC Senior Vice President of Creative Affairs Gregory Noveck serving as Executive Producer for the film.

The comic series, written in 2003, tells the story of a former CIA agent who is living a quiet life of retirement until a high-tech assassin appears, intent on killing him. Once his secret life has been thrown into shambles, and his loved ones are in danger, the man reassembles his old team to determine who their new enemy is.

Warren Ellis, who wrote the comic, has another of his properties in development. His comic Ocean is being developed by Warner Bros.
