Summit Entertainment has picked up the rights to Julie Cross's upcoming sci-fi novel Tempest. According to Variety, Sonny Mallhi will produce the movie through the Macmillian Films banner, with Brendan Deneen and Roy Lee serving as executive producers.

The book, which will soon be released under St. Martin's Press and Thomas Dunne Books, revolves around a nineteen-year-old time traveler that witnesses his girlfriend's murder, then suddenly finds himself two years in the past. While stuck in time and trying to devise a plan to save his girlfriend, our hero is recruited by a shadowy government agency overseen by a man thought to be his father. This story kicks off the first chapter in what is expected to be a trilogy.

No director has been signed to the project at this time, and it is unclear if Julie Cross will be adapting her own book for the screenplay, or if other writers will be brought into work on the project.
