Paramount Pictures decided to roll out its summer adventure Super 8 a day early, earning a cool $1 million in select theaters.

The movie, which stars Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning, and Joel Courtney, opened in 324 theaters yesterday; screenings which were hosted by the social networking website Twitter.

Super 8 opened in 1,200 theaters for midnight shows last night, which earned an estimated $500,000. The movie is projected to open somewhere between $20 million and $30 million for its opening weekend, which falls in line with Paramount's expectations. Super 8 was made on a production budget of $50 million.

Super 8 centers on a small town in 1979, which is rocked when a train crash sets off mysterious events in and around the town. J.J. Abrams directed Super 8 from his own original screenplay, with Steven Spielberg executive producing.
