James Gunn and Peter Safran have announced a slate of upcoming movies they have planned to build out their DCU, and among them was Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film is in its early stages and no casting information has yet been revealed, so as of now, it's not clear who will be playing Supergirl. If it's not Sasha Calle, however, that would make her run in the role faster than a speeding bullet, as the film in which she makes her debut as Supergirl hasn't even yet been released.

It had previously been announced that Calle would debut as Supergirl in The Flash, though multiple delays have pushed that movie's release in theaters back to June 16. Before the leadership changes that saw Gunn and Safran come in to control DC Studios creatively, there were reports that Calle's Supergirl was also planned to go on to star in her own spinoff movie or HBO Max series. However, once Gunn and Safran came in and started canceling projects, starting with the return of Henry Cavill's Superman, it was clear that Calle's future in the role was in jeopardy.

But Gunn and Safran aren't planning on scrapping every actor from the DCEU, as the door still hasn't been closed on other Justice League stars potentially coming into the DCU. Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Zachary Levi's Shazam haven't had their futures yet decided and still might appear in future films. Gunn and Safran have also said that The Flash star Ezra Miller hasn't been booted from the role as of this time, as they're letting the actor focus on their mental health before having those discussions.

So if the DC Studios heads aren't writing off the star of The Flash just yet, that would certainly make it possible for Calle to continue on as Supergirl. While making their DCU announcements on Tuesday, the two were quoted as saying that this decision still hasn't been made, and part of that is because Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is still in its very early stages. Because that's still up in the air, Gunn and Safran may end up waiting to see how fans respond to Calle in the role when The Flash is released this summer.

“We’re figuring it all out. We don’t know yet,” Gunn and Safran said of Calle potentially staying in the Supergirl role. “We’re pretty far away from Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.”

It could end up being a one-and-done performance, but fans can see Sasha Calle as Supergirl when The Flash hits movie theaters on June 16, 2023.
