Our parent site MovieWeb has put up news from MTV regarding the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, and superhero fans will be delighted to hear that our beloved superhero films did fairly well in the awards.

The Dark Knight is the winner among superhero films, walking away with four nominations, including Best Picture, Christian Bale for Best Male Performance, Heath Ledger for Best Villain and Christian Bale vs. Heath Ledger for Best Fight. Also well represented are Wanted with three nominations (Angelina Jolie for Best Female Performance, Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy for Best Kiss, and in the "Best WTF Moment" category for the Curved Bullet Kill), Hellboy II: The Golden Army with two nominations (Luke Goss for Best Villain and Ron Perlman vs. Luke Goss for Best Fight), and Iron Man which also received two nominations (Best Picture and Robert Downey Jr. for Best Male Performance).

The 18th annual awards show will be executive produced by Emmy Award winning producer Mark Burnett. Hosted by Andy Samberg, the "2009 MTV MOVIE AWARDS" will be broadcast LIVE from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA on Sunday, May 31st at 9p.m./8p.m. C.
