One character won't be looking quite the same when Superman & Lois returns for season 3. In seasons 1 and 2, Jordan Elsass played the role of Jonathan Kent, brother to Jordan Kent (Alexander Garfin) and son of Clark Kent/Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch). Per Variety, Elsass has suddenly left the series with Warner Bros. TV stating that the departure is due to "personal reasons." No additional details were provided on why Elsass left the series, but it's noted that this is not the result of a "workplace-related issue."

Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for season 3 due to personal reasons. The role of Jonathan Kent will be recast," the company said in a statement.

Just a few months back, Elsass seemed pretty excited about how things were going with Superman & Lois in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Though the actor noted he wasn't exactly a fan of this character's look when he first came into that role, though he came to understand it after reading the script.

"It's not that I wasn't a fan, it's just that when I first saw the outfit, I don't believe I'd actually read the script yet," Elsass explained. "I was like 'What the hell is this?' I was just baffled. And once I actually read the script, it started to click pretty quickly. And by the end of the episode, I was definitely into it. But it took me a little while to get used to that hair and that outfit and everything. That was funky."

It was announced in March that Superman & Lois had been renewed for a third season. This was seen as fantastic news for fans of the series, especially after The CW axed other DC shows like Naomi, Batwoman, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. With The Flash also coming to an end with its upcoming ninth season, Superman & Lois will rise as the flagship superhero series of the network.

"As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond," The CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz said in a statement at the time. "These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially-engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint."
