The CW has renewed their DC series Superman & Lois for a third season. Since beginning in 2021, Superman & Lois has consistently been one of the network's highest-rated shows and one of its most well-received series to tackle with the realm of DC Comics. Led by Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent AKA Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, Superman & Lois follows the legendary superhero and the Daily Planet’s best reporter as they return to Smallville with their sons Jonathan and Jordan.
"As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond," Mark Pedowitz, Chairman and CEO of The CW Network said in a statement regarding the various renewals, which also includes the likes of The Flash and Walker. "These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially-engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint."
Set in The CW’s Arrowverse, Superman & Lois picks up with Kal-El after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters, and alien invaders intent on wreaking havoc on Metropolis and wiping out the human race, the world's most famous superhero, The Man of Steel (Tyler Hoechlin, Teen Wolf) and comic books' most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, Grimm), come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever – dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society.
Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, Little Fires Everywhere) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin, The Peanuts Movie) could inherit their father's Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, Entourage), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark's first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, Graceland). The adults aren't the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle's rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, Wander Darkly).
The CW Has Renewed The Flash Alongside Superman & Lois
Superman & Lois is not the only DC-based series to receive renewal from The CW, with The Flash also set to continue into its ninth season. The network has also renewed several of its other existing shows, including All American, Kung Fu, Nancy Drew, Riverdale, and the Walker reboot for the 2022-2023 season.
However, whether several other shows will get the renewal treatment is currently unknown. These shows include several DC projects such as DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and DC's Stargirl, as well as Charmed, In the Dark, Dynasty, Legacies, and Roswell, New Mexico. The fate of the recent pilot for fellow DC outing Gotham Knights is also unknown, with the decision over whether to go ahead with the series expected to be made later this year.
