SUPERMAN finally has a director, reports Variety, and it's in a completely different direction than the ill-fated, Death of Superman plot that Tim Burton was once attached to. Joseph McGinty Nichol, or 'McG', as he's refered to, has been handed the gig of helming the new Superman. With the surprise success of Charlie's Angels, it's no suprise that McG would be picked for Superman. A scooper over at Coming Attractions says, "Warners is seeing a lighter, funnier 'McG'-style Superman, getting rid once and for all of the Death of Superman plot and all the Burton crap."

The newest screenwriter to tackle the big boyscout? J.J. Abrams (Alias, Felicity, Joy Ride).

My thoughts? McG has a cool style, but also an affinity for camp, so we'll see what happens with this one. The addition of J.J. is good news, but I was a fan of the Kevin Smith, Tim Burton, Nick Cage incarnation of the project.

One way or another, Superman is on the fast track, and it's only a matter of time....

Kerouac out.
