Some might think it's amazing that Supernatural is still on the air, but over the course of 12 seasons it has become an institution unto itself. And there is no end in sight. But if a series finale is called for sometime in the far away future, stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki know what needs to happen.

As it stands, there is no end game for the CW horror action comedy series Supernatural, which lives by the mantra 'it's not jumping the shark if you never land.' While a lot of CW shows have parished in its wake, The Winchester boys are as popular as ever, and probably even more so. As you can imagine, the two headliners, who are best friends in real life, aren't really in the mood to discuss an absolute ending for their small screen alter egos. But the two do hope their boss comes back.

That's right, Ackles and Padalecki are already petitioning to have series creator Eric Kripke return for the show's swan song. It's inevitable that at some point, the fun will have to come to an end. And the boys want Kripke to write that ending. Says Jared Padalecki to TVLine.

"I don't like to say, 'When the show ends,' because the show's not going to end. But when the show does start to wrap down, I would love to see Eric come back and give his opinion. Because he created us in the first place, so it would be an honor."

Jensen Ackles is on the exact same page. Of course the creator of this universe should return to finish what he started. Especially since it has prove to have such a healthy life in his absence. Says Ackles.

"It would be a nice little bow on top of the whole thing [to] have Eric take us out."

Eric Kripke has turned into quite the busy producer since he officially left Supernatural. He exited the series as a show runner six years ago simply to have a few creative geniuses breath new life into the show. Now, he has launched the time travel drama Timeless on NBC. The big question is, does Kripke even want to come back? Sure, decades from now. He jokes.

"When I'm 90? I do fantasize that it would be great to at least come in and be a co-writer of the finale, whenever that would be. But obviously that depends on what [executive producer] Bob Singer wants, what [co-showrunner] Andrew Dabb wants [and] what I'm doing at the time. But yes, the idea of it would be cool, if possible."

There is seriously no telling when Supernatural may end, but the boys have hinted that they might wrap things up with episode 300. Don't worry, that is years away. Jensen Ackles has one final request for the series finale though. He does not want his co-star Jared to help co-write it. We hope he's joking.
