Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier will direct period love story The Duchess, based on Amanda Foreman's novel Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire, according to Production Weekly.

The film is about a beautiful woman in an unhappy marriage who falls in love with a young politician.

The adapted script was written by Jeffrey Hatcher, but Bier and her writing partner Anders Thomas Jensen are working on a new draft together.

The project will shoot on location in the United Kingdom in early 2007 after Bier completes work on her current project, Things We Lost In The Fire, starring Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro.
