HBO has picked up comedy Swamplandia, for Scott Rudin to produce.

Swamplandia revolves around Ava Bigtree, a 12-year-old alligator wrestler who embarks on an improbable journey through the mangrove wilderness of southwest Florida as she searches for her lost sister.

The network and the producer are currently searching for a scriber for the adaptation, with author Karen Russell consulting. This is the author's first novel with another literary release called "St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves."

No casting or production details have been released.
