After receiving a series order last year, Syfy officially released the trailer for the upcoming science fiction mystery The Ark. The stakes are set from the moment the trailer begins and couldn’t be higher for the crew aboard Ark One. The interstellar drama comes from Stargate and Independence Day’s Dean Devlin and Stargate SG-1’s Jonathan Glassner, who both serve as showrunners and executive producers. Given both of their attachments to the widely popular Stargate franchise, audiences can expect a visually compelling sci-fi adventure with loads of action. The 12-episode season will premiere on February 1st at 10 PM on Syfy, with episodes available on Peacock the following day.

The series' official poster reaffirms that the crew members will face an uneasy transition as they journey through the cosmos.

Syfy The Ark

The Ark’s events occur 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions are a requirement to ensure humanity’s survival. Ark One is one of the first spacecrafts to leave Earth in hopes of building a new colony. Unfortunately, what initially begins as a straightforward objective to make it to their new home quickly becomes a dire situation for all the members onboard. As depicted within the first few moments of the trailer, the spacecraft encounters a catastrophic event during their journey through deep space that causes massive destruction and loss of life upon the ship. The event knocks them off course from their destination and leaves the remaining ship members without their original leadership.

The survivors are made up of brilliant minds, from engineers to scientists, who must attempt to come together for humanity’s survival and their own, as they have over a year left before reaching their target planet. As mysteries swirl and life-sustaining resources diminish, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.

The Ark stars Christie Burke as Lt. Sharon Garnet, Richard Fleeshman as Lt. James Brice, Reece Ritchie as Lt. Spencer Lane, Stacey Read as Alicia Nevins, and Ryan Adams as Angus Medford. Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson of Electric Entertainment serve as executive producers alongside Devlin and Glassner. Jonathan English of Balkanic Media and Steve Lee are on board as producers.

The Ark marks the second television team-up between Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner. Both were executive producers for the CW supernatural fantasy The Outpost, which ran for four seasons between 2018 and 2021. This time, the duo is in the creative chair for The Ark as showrunners. Last month, Devlin disclosed the show’s origin emerged from a conversation with the President of EPIX & MGM’s Scripted Television, Michael Wright.

"He was just saying how he loves spaceship shows and [how] there’s not a lot of them anymore. He just always thought it was such a ripe area to have these people locked in this contained environment. After that conversation, I just kept thinking about it and thinking about it. This story came into my head, and I just wrote it to see if I could write it. Then I sent it out, and SYFY loved it and wanted to go forward with it...It’s just been one of the most joyful, fascinating, interesting projects I've ever done."
