Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is being eyed for the male lead in the upcoming Paramount Pictures drama The Taliban Shuffle, alongside Tina Fey. Showbiz 411 reports that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is believed to be "the final choice" for the male lead role, although no other character details were revealed. If he does sign on, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will join a cast that also includes Margot Robbie and Martin Freeman.
The plot is based on freelance journalist Kim Barker's non-fiction novel of the same name, which follows her exploits of covering the war in Afghanistan and Pakistan, "shuffling" between the two countries. Tina Fey is playing Kim Barker, with Margot Robbie playing a broadcast journalist colleague, with Martin Freeman playing Barker's love interest, a Scottish photojournalist.
Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are directing the drama from a script by Robert Carlock (30 Rock), adapted from Kim Barker's book. Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels are producing, although no production schedule was released at this time. Aside from playing Jamie Lannister in HBO's Game of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau most recently starred in Oblivion and The Other Woman, and he will next be seen in Gods of Egypt.
