Following a number of fan-castings putting The Kingsman star Taron Egerton as one of the potential actors who could take over the role of Wolverine in the MCU, the actor has revealed that he has had talks with Marvel Studios about a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universes future. With many new characters to be introduced to Marvel’s ongoing narrative, including the Fantastic Four and X-Men amongst others, could Egerton be possibly taking on the role of Wolverine, or is there someone else on the cards for the actor?

Marvel has already introduced many new characters since Phase 4 began, including Shang-Chi, the numerous Eternals members and more, but that doesn’t mean the comic book machine is slowing down any time soon. That means there will be plenty of actors needed to continue adding to the roster of heroes and villains in the next Phase and beyond. When it comes to rumors about the impending casting of Wolverine in particular, fans have listed everyone from Daniel Radcliffe to Antony Starr as a potential replacement for the phenomenal run of Hugh Jackman.

While speaking to the New York Times recently, Egerton confirmed that he has been in contact with Marvel Studios to discuss joining the MCU, and even cheekily referenced Wolverine in passing. Whether this was a potential tease, or more likely a knowing reference, check out the comments the actor made below and make up your own mind.

"I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it... But hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”

Many Marvel fans have struggled with the lull that has come over the MCU in phase 4. While Avengers: Endgame brought about a huge, sweeping epic finale to the Infinity Saga, the movies that have been released in the last two years have been collectively been described by Kevin Feige as new beginnings. It has almost been like a reset on the entire Marvel story, and it will take a long while for things to build up to anything like another Endgame event.

When it comes to the next steps, Feige has teased that there will be a sharing of the future roadmap in the coming months. This will probably take place during the upcoming Comic Con panel or the D23 Expo in September, and that is when we will find out which of Marvel’s extensive list of heroes will be getting movies and Disney+ TV shows beyond next summer’s The Marvels.

It seems unlikely that we will find out that soon exactly which character Egerton has been in talks about, the internet will continue to speculate on whether he could be the one to take over the role of Wolverine. As long as the actor continues to share his enthusiasm for the part, including posting pictures of himself posing like Jackman’s version of the character, that speculation will only grow until the moment the truth is revealed.
