Taron Egerton nor anyone else has been officially cast to play the new Wolverine, but the Kingsman star can't help but be flattered and excited by the rumors of his involvement. Ever since Kevin Feige confirmed that the X-Men would be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there's been a lot of speculation of the potential casting. Wolverine, in particular, has been getting a lot of attention which has increased amid new rumors of the character appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Egerton's name has come up many times as someone fans would like to see as the MCU's Logan. He has addressed the fan castings in the past, but with renewed speculation that Wolverine's MCU arrival is imminent, Egerton was again asked about the rumors on The One Show. Per Digital Spy, here's what the Rocketman star had to say when asked if there was any truth to the rumors he could be our next Wolverine.
"There's no truth in it at all. There's no truth in it. It would, be, obviously, really exciting, but I don't know... Yeah, of course [I'd take that role]. That's like playing Bond. It would be exciting to play a role where you play to such a huge audience. Those movies are the most-watched movies in the world. It's a great thrill, and it's a great part. But there's no truth in it. Very flattering, though."
Fans have been calling for Egerton to get the part for years, and he's often been featured in fan art imagining him in the role of Wolverine. In 2019, he said he's "never felt like a Wolverine sort of guy" and suggested that there were "better candidates" than him. In 2020, he told GQ that the rumors were flattering, but similarly denied his involvement. With fans still keeping their fingers crossed for the potential casting in 2022, it's clear that these rumors will not be going away until the next Wolverine is officially revealed.
Who Will Be Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
We can only guess who will next show up as Logan in the MCU. Many fans are still hopeful Hugh Jackman will surprise everyone and make at least one more special appearance in the role. Because the multiverse makes anything possible, there's always a chance this could happen, though Jackman insists he's finished with the part.
Another name that's been mentioned a lot by fans as a good potential Wolverine is Scott Eastwood. Earlier this month, Eastwood said fans should start a petition for him to play Logan, making it clear he'd be glad to be given the adamantium claws if the opportunity comes along. There are many other actors people have suggested as well, but always right there among them is Taron Egerton, who even Marvel Comics legend Mark Millar predicted would get the role in the end.
"Taron Egerton will be the next Wolverine," Millar stated on Twitter in 2019.
