Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis could be about to join the DCEU with a significant role in the upcoming Blue Beetle movie. Body double-casting call details reported by Cosmic Circus show a call for a "Ted Body Double" for the movie, and the information for the role includes an image of Sudeikis as a reference. The "Ted" in question is likely to be that of Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle that Jaime Reyes takes over from and occasionally is mentored by. It has been speculated for a while whether the character of Ted would appear in the new movie, and now it looks like we have an answer.

It states that they are looking for "Blonde and Brunette talent for a still photo shoot. Must match the complexion of the reference photo." The listing goes on to ask for 22-55 year old males and be around 6 feet tall. While the inclusion of Sudeikis' image may seem like an unofficial confirmation, another casting includes a picture of Bruna Marquezine as its reference in a call for someone to play her character's mother. With this in mind, Sudeikis' casting seems like a pretty solid shout.

There have been very few updates on the Blue Beetle movie since it was revealed that the film will now be getting a cinematic release and not head straight to streaming on HBO Max as initially planned. As part of the new Warner Bros. strategy since the merger with Discovery, there has been a big push for all DC-related movies to be made with a theatrical release in mind. So far, the cast of the film includes Xolo Mariduena in the lead role, with Susan Sarandon, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carillo, Damian Alcazar, Harvey Guillen and Sharon Stone making up the rest of the known cast.

Blue Beetle May Not Be One of DC’s Best Known Characters, But Did Become Part of the Justice League

Blue Beetle Test Image #2

In the worlds of both DC and Marvel, there are dozens of iterations of their many characters out there, and adapting one to the big screen is no easy task when there is such an avid fan base watching every move. While Blue Beetle may not be one of the best-known DC heroes to those who do not have a love of comic books, the character has been significantly integrated with several DC's superhero groups, including Justice League, Teen Titans, Young Justice and Secret Six.

Of course, there are currently questions about where exactly Warner Bros. are planning on taking their DCEU, as so far, the movies have been far from a consistent success thanks to the original Zack Snyder plan coming apart and being disbanded by Warner Bros following the director's departure from Justice League in 2017 due to his personal circumstances, and nothing since every landing with any real regard for the other movies surrounding it. While it has been rumored and refuted that The Flash movie serves as a kind of reset on the franchise, there still doesn't seem to be much of a plan for the overarching DCEU as a whole, which perhaps means Blue Beetle, and other coming movies, can only be judged on their own merit.
