Temuera Morrison has firmly integrated himself into the Star Wars franchise after playing Jango Fett in the prequel movies, Boba Fett in The Mandalorian and its Boba Fett spin-off series and even a clone wars veteran in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now according to One Take News, Morrison will be adding yet another character to his tally as he will take on the role of Captain Rex in new Star Wars series, Ahsoka. The Clone Wars character is making his live-action debut in the show, and Morrison will be taking over from Dee Bradley Baker, who has voiced the character in all of his previous animated iterations.

We know that Ahsoka will take place within the same rough time space as The Mandalorian, but it is unclear whether all of the action happen within that timeline as there could also be plenty of scope for flashbacks to occur. Similarly, it isn’t known whether Morrison’s version of Captain Rex will be in the “present” or will only be seen in flashback sequences. Having already played a number of clones, of which Jango Fett was the original blueprint, it is also yet to be revealed whether Morrison could have even more roles to play in the series. Either way, after the actor recently noted that he had not been asked to reprise his role as Boba Fett in the third season of The Mandalorian, it will be a welcome return to the franchise.

While the recent third season of The Mandalorian did not come with the same glowing praise of previous seasons, there is no doubt that there are still plenty of people who are on board with the show and is numerous spin-offs that have built out their own place in the timeline of the Star Wars franchise. The release of Ahsoka is one that has been eagerly awaited by a large section of Star Wars fans.

The series has already promised much with its first trailer, which can be seen below, including the live-action debut of another formerly animated character, Grand Admiral Thrawn, who will be the main antagonist of the series. While the plot details are mostly being kept under wraps for now, there is still enough to known to have fans excited to see where the show will take its title character and how it will fit into The Mandalorian’s universe.

Naturally, the series will also take on a slightly different tone for fans of Ray Stevenson, who passed away last week and appears in the series as a new villain, Beylon. The actor completed his work on the series some times ago, and as one of his last completed projects it seems certain to gain a whole new audience from his fans. What his character’s role in the series is, and whether he would have gone on to appear again in future, is something that had not been revealed, but it seems that decision may have been taken out of the hands of the creative team by his unexpected death.
