The original Terrifier movie will be coming back to the big screen just in time for the spooky holiday season this year. Per THR, it has been announced that the first Terrifier, released in 2018, is coming back to movie theaters on July 19 where it will be screened in 700 locations, its widest release to date. To help promote the re-release, Dread has released a new red band trailer that teases the film's bloody mayhem, and you can check that out below.

The re-release comes as the result of a collaboration between Dread and Iconic Events, which also worked on the release of Terrifier 2. With the success of the sequel bringing renewed attention to the original Terrifier, it's a great time to bring Art the Clown's first feature film back to theaters. Both movies are helmed by Damien Leone, who has greatly impressed the people at Iconic Events with his work.

"Every once in a while, a film genre spawns a generational talent who breaks the mold. Damien Leone is such a visionary director," Iconic Events president Steve Menkin said.

Epic Pictures and Dread CEO Patrick Ewald added, “When Damien Leone and his team brought Terrifier to Dread Central years ago, we knew that the film was something incredibly special and astoundingly terrifying in the best way possible. Now, six years later, with millions of Terrifier fans worldwide, we are excited to once again unleash on the big screen this blood-soaked homage to old-school horror and the insanity of Art the Clown,”

Terrifier 2 was a big success financially when it was released last year. The sequel banked around $15 million on a budget of $250,000, screening in 770 theaters. That has led to Leone announcing that a third film is in the works, and there will be more madness to come from Art the Clown.

Terrifier 3 will be another boundary-pushing addition to the horror genre, continuing the no holds barred, uncompromising exploits fans of the franchise have come to expect and celebrate," Leone said, per Deadline. "If you thought Art the Clown’s reign of terror in part 2 was extreme, you haven’t seen anything yet."

The Coven's Priscilla Smith added, "There will be a much bigger budget this time around, which is intended to give the filmmakers more creative freedom, and let them be as wild as they can be. And, all jokes aside, we are going for that Oscar this year.”

Going back to the first Terrifier, the film was written and directed by Leone. David Howard Thornton stars as Art the Clown, while the first film also starred Jenna Kanell, Samantha Scaffidi, Catherine Corcoran, and Pooya Mohseni. Set on Halloween night, the film follows a young woman and her sister after they become the targets of a homicidal clown who wants to terrorize them.

Terrifier will be back on the big screen on July 19, 2023.
