Last week, Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson was quoted in W magazine discussing the powers of her Marvel character Valkyrie, which seemed to suggest that the fan-favorite will be getting more comic-accurate abilities in the upcoming fourth solo movie featuring the God of Thunder. However, the Westworld star has now clarified her comments, admitting that she was not perhaps clear in what she said to the magazine and that she does not want this to be interpreted as any kind of spoiler for the movie. Thor: Love and Thunder will arrive in cinemas in July after a number of pandemic delays, so it is fair to say that Marvel will be hoping to hold onto the movie’s secrets for some time yet.

So far, director Taika Waititi has hinted that his latest collaboration with Marvel will be emotional, unexpected and bonkers, which doesn’t give away anything about the actual plot of the movie. We do know that the film will see the return of the main cast from Thor: Ragnarok, along with Natalie Portman’s franchise comeback as Jane Foster, and the introduction of Christian Bale as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher. Recently though, it was the interview with the Valkyrie actress that caused a bit of a stir, and she fell it necessary to make a statement to just explain her comments.

"In talking about Valkyrie to W Mag, I was talking generally about powers that are canon and that I loved in reading the comics and not Thor: Love and Thunder. I shan’t be a home for spoilers,” Thompson posted on her Instagram stories.

In the original article, Thompson briefly touched on her upcoming return to the role that she first played in Thor: Ragnarok, and at one point discussed Valkyrie’s powers in the comic books, which included being able to help revive those who have been injured in battle as well as transport the dead to Valhalla. While she didn’t directly say that these powers would be transferred to her character in the movie, but with so much focus being on the upcoming movie there were plenty of fans who were willing to jump on the information.

Despite Thompson’s clarification, it doesn’t mean that those enhanced powers mentioned will not end up being a part of the film, but it seems that the actress doesn’t want the information to have come from her if it is true. When the character of Valkyrie was last seen in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame, she had been made Queen of New Asgard as Thor decided to embark on a journey with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

It has been hinted that Valkyrie’s bisexuality will be explored in more detail in Thor: Love and Thunder, and there is certainly a lot more to come from her in the sequel even without any addition to her powers, which it should be said are already pretty formidable when it comes to her strength and abilities as a warrior. All will finally be revealed when the movie makes its debut in July as the second MCU movie of 2022.
