In the original run of Marvel comic books (SPOILER ALERT), Gwen Stacy dies at the hands of The Green Goblin during an intense battle with Spider-Man on top of a bridge. It became a watershed moment in Peter Parker's life, and many fans have wondered if the new franchise will stay true to this story arc. The biggest question posed by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is whether Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy will live or die. While she was spotted on set in her iconic green and purple 'death clothes', we can't be certain that things will play out the same way they did in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #121.
But maybe they will, as Sony Pictures and director Marc Webb plan to stay true to the lore behind this saga. During a recent interview on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Emma Stone herself hinted that she may meet her demise...Though without confirming her character's fate one way or another.
"I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen's story as closely to the comic as possible. That's been the director's idea and the studio's idea. We'll see if that comes to fruition."
We may get an answer to this burning question sooner than originally anticipated. It has already been reported that the sequel will debut new footage during Super Bowl XLVIII, but Ryan Seacrest reports that this clip (or TV spot) will actually debut tomorrow, Thursday, January 30 at 5 PM ET, on the sequel's official Facebook page before the big game. And this scene promises to tease the fate of Gwen Stacy.
Emma Stone further spoke about the relationship between Gwen and Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) earlier this month, claiming that she saves Peter more than he saves her. During her radio interview, she added more about the story and how it continues this hero's journey.
"Basically they're going to see the continuation of the Spider Man story, which is the hero's journey, and he's up against a whole new squadron of villains and he's struggling with promises he's made in the last movie and the consequences of making those and what it's like to be in love with somebody who you promised to not see anymore."
We'll bring you this upcoming clip as soon as it's available tomorrow afternoon, so stay tuned to find out more about what happens to Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
