The Amazing Spider-Man brings the webbed wonder back to the big screen with a new take on Peter Parker's origin story. We already know that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in the works, although now we have word that Columbia Pictures is planning a trilogy. Take a look at this post from the movie's official Facebook page.

"It's finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents."

This confirms what director Marc Webb said back in April, that the mystery surrounding Peter Parker's parents will unfold throughout multiple sequels, starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. We also reported in April that Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have signed on to write the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

It isn't known yet if Marc Webb will return to direct the second and third installments of this new trilogy.
