The Amazing Spider-Man finally swung into theaters at midnight last night, taking in an impressive $7.5 million from the 12:01 AM screenings. The tally is on par with the last incarnation of the webbed wonder, Spider-Man 3, which went on to break box office records with a $151 million opening weekend back in May 2007.

Sony Pictures rolled out director Marc Webb's superhero reboot in 3,150 theaters last night, a healthy portion of the 4,318 theaters it opens in starting today. The action-adventure has already made a splash at the international box office, taking in $50.2 million in 13 overseas markets.

Since The Amazing Spider-Man is opening on a Tuesday, it likely won't break any three-day opening weekend records, but it should pull in a healthy total over the holiday weekend.
