Alan Tudyk casting rumor debunked by Edgar Wright
It is being rumored this morning that Alan Tudyk has been cast as scientist Hank Pym (aka Ant-Man) in Joss Whedon's huge Marvel Comics ensemble adaptation The Avengers. Moviefone got quick confirmation from Edgar Wright, director of the forth coming stand-alone Ant-Man movie, that this is not true. When hearing the rumor, Wright declared, "That's news to me!"

While this is just another in a long line of Marvel casting rumors as of late, the story points to what actually may be fact: Hank Pym is in The Avengers. The character reportedly appears in the script for a brief amount of time alongside The Wasp, whom many still feel will be portrayed by Demi Lovato, though both Marvel Studios and Reps for the actress have /the-avengers-isnt-looking-at-demi-lovato/denied that particular rumor.

Hank Pym and his wife Janet Van Dyne (The Wasp) are expected to transform into their costumed alter-egos during the end credit sequence of The Avengers, in a scene that will set up Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie. Hank and Janet will be seen creating Ultron, who is expected to be the villain in their forth-coming solo adventure.

It is possible that Alan Tudyk is being considered for the role of Ant-Man in The Avengers. The actor has a history with Joss Whedon, appearing as a main cast member on the director's short-lived, yet extremely popular sci-fi series Firefly. He is quite popular with genre fans, having appeared on Whedon's Dollhouse and V, and he has gained critically acclaim for his upcoming role in the cult favorite Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil. The actor will next be seen in Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Is it possible that Joss Whedon would hire his own Ant-Man without consulting Edgar Wright? Stranger things have happened, and Tudyk certainly looks the part. Can you thing of another actor that is better suited for the role?
