The Batman will show Bruce Wayne slowly discovering his billionaire playboy persona as he learns how best to tackle the criminal underworld of Gotham City. Speaking with Fandango, The Batman star Zoe Kravitz revealed some details of Bruce Wayne’s evolution, confirming what many had suspected about this latest big-screen version of Bruce Wayne. Namely, that this movie will see him develop his playboy alter ego.

"I think because Bruce is such a recluse in this film, to see Bruce evolve into a person that knows he has to perform and be on a yacht with... that's a really fun journey to go on.”

From what we have seen so far from Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne, the vengeful billionaire is far too engrossed in beating criminals to a pulp all night and brooding during the day to play the part of a naïve elite. Thanks to Kravitz, we can now safely assume that The Batman will find Bruce Wayne learning a valuable lesson about crime in his city. Instead of just fighting low-level criminals, the events of the movie, and the machinations of The Riddler, will lead Bruce to the realization that he must craft another alter ego, the billionaire, using his position of privilege to stop crime at the very top of Gotham’s elite.

The Batman will not only act as an origin of Bruce Wayne in terms of his developing methods, the DC movie will also provide an origin story for Zoe Kravitz's Selina Kyle as she gradually becomes the Catwoman that fans know and love. “This is an origin story for Selina,” the actress explained previously. “So, it’s the beginning of her figuring out who she is, beyond just someone trying to survive. I think there’s a lot of space to grow and I think we are watching her become what I’m sure will be the femme fatale.”

Directed by Matt Reeves, who wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman alongside Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle Aka Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton AKA The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot AKA Penguin. The Batman will pick up with the costumed vigilante during his second year of fighting crime. Struggling to make the impact he wants on crime, the movie sees Batman uncover corruption in Gotham City while pursuing the Riddler (Dano), a serial killer who has begun targeting Gotham's elite. Batman slowly uncovers corruption that connects to his own family during the investigation and is soon forced to make new allies to catch the Riddler and bring the corrupt to justice.

The Batman is scheduled to premiere in New York City on March 1, 2022, and will be theatrically released on March 4, after being delayed twice from an initial June 2021 release date due to the ongoing global circumstances.
