The Batman stars Zoe Kravitz and Robert Pattinson have offered further clues regarding the relationship between The Bat and The Cat in director Matt Reeves’ highly-anticipated DC movie. The relationship between Catwoman and Batman has always been one rife with dramatic chemistry, and the portrayal in The Batman will be no different.

"They have quite a strong connection pretty quickly, and I think they're both trying to ignore that. They're both very surprised by feeling a connection with somebody because that's quite rare for them. It puts both of us out of our comfort zone."

Speaking in an interview with EW, Robert Pattinson explained how the dynamic between The Bat, The Cat, and The Penguin in The Batman will have a profound effect on Bruce Wayne’s perceptions of what makes a good guy and a bad guy. The unspoken connection between Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne and the similarities in both their upbringing and their desire to run around in costumes will open Wayne’s eyes to a much more complicated world of heroes and villains. As Robert Pattinson explains...

"Bruce created Batman in this very binary worldview where he [believes] there are bad guys and there are victims. Selina comes along, and he's like, 'Well, you're a thief. You're basically the same as the Penguin,' and yet... there's something in her I recognize. It's going up against his snap judgment."

Rather than simply presenting a black-and-white depiction of Batman and his infamous rogue’s gallery, director Matt Reeves intends to explore the psychology behind each character as an individual. "I didn't want, Here comes the rogues' gallery characters, and here's Batman, and aren't they exciting, and he's going to beat them,” the filmmaker explained. “I wanted it to be much more psychological for his character to have a place to go."

Batman has always been connected to his villains and vice-versa, with many of them representing different shards of Bruce Wayne’s shattered psyche. Certainly, it sounds like Reeves will be leaning heavily into this idea for The Batman’s iteration of the DC icon.

Two years into his career stalking the streets as the Batman, striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies, Alfred Pennyworth and Lt. James Gordon, amongst the city's corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham's elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World's Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman, Oswald Cobblepot, and Carmine Falcone. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator's plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

The Batman is scheduled to premiere in New York City on March 1, 2022, and will be theatrically released on March 4.
