We all know Twilight and Remeber Me actor Robert Pattinson will be taking on the role of Bruce Wayne / Batman in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield director Matt Reeves' The Batman. Now we can all start wondering who will be taking on the previously announced role of Catwoman.
And that's just what we're going to be doing here today, as this morning we got word that the powers that be behind the scenes of this new Batman movie are looking to cast Kick-Ass and Let Me In actress Chloe Moretz as Selina Kyle.
Parks and Recreation and recent Child's Play remake starAubrey Plaza recently threw her metaphorical hat into the ring for the role, going to "audition" as Catwoman over on Stephen Colbert. But considering that Reeves' upcoming take on The Dark Knight is said to be set in the very early years of the Caped Crusader's life, I think a Catwoman who is younger than Robert Pattinson would be the safer bet. Sure Plaza is only a year older than Pattinson, but the same rules apply. I guess we'll see soon enough.
I don't know about you, but I think Chloë Grace Moretz is basically a shoo-in for the role. After all, the actress more than showed she has the physical prowess to play the role way back when she was just a fricking kid in her role as Mindy Macready / Hit-Girl in director Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass. Not to mention all the parts the actress has under her belt since then including Tim Burton's Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp, that remake of Stephen King's Carrie, and Antoine Fuqua's The Equalizer with Denzel Washington.
Plus she was in Nicholas Stoller's Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising with Seth Rogen and Zac Efron. I'm not exactly sure what it is about her role in Neighbors 2 that qualifies her for the role of Catwoman, but whatever. Oh, and let's not forget, she also starred in Reeves' own vampire coming-of-age tale Let Me In.
As far as other villains and actors attached to Matt Reeves' The Batman goes, Frozen II and Beauty and the Beast star Josh Gad said earlier this week that he's not playing the Penguin. But other names that have been teased for this new take on Batman include Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Avengers: Infinity War star Dave Bautista as Bane, and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Downton Abbey star Dame Maggie Smith as Alfred. And my personal favortie, Home Alone and The Good Son star Macaulay Culkin as the Clown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker.
However all this casting eventually breaks down, we do know that in the end, War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves will be taking the helm of The Batman from a screenplay he wrote himself based on the classic DC character created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. Hopefully, we'll start hearing some more concrete casting updates soon as The Batman arrives in theaters on June 25th, 2021. This casting rumor comes to us via We Got This Covered.
