The Batman received its World Premiere in London and stars Robert Pattinson, Paul Dano, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright and Zoe Kravitz stunned fans on the red carpet. But director Matt Reeves also made waves when he noted they “have started talking” about a sequel. Of course, the movie does not go on general release until March 4th, but with two spin-off series already in the works, Warner Bros. doesn’t want to let the grass grow under their feet on this one. As with any premiere, there was plenty of glam and glitz provided by the movie stars, as can be seen in the images below that were shared on social media.

Director Matt Reeves mingled with the crowds, signing autographs before being interviewed by a number of English publications. While speaking to The Independent, Reeves discussed how he came to see Pattinson as the new Batman. He said:

“He’s amazing. He’s a great actor. Honestly the work he has done post-Twilight, I think he was great in Twilight and he became this pop icon, but he did something really brave. He went down this path of just making these Indie movies, working with great filmmakers and he’s like a chameleon, he’s become such an incredible actor. I saw a movie called Good Time that he did, and once I saw that I thought, there’s something in this performance that says to me he could be Batman. We met and it turns out he really wanted to be Batman, and I really wanted him to be so it worked out.”

Asked whether there would be a sequel, Reeves continued:

“I hope so, we’ll see, for sure. Look, you don’t make number one as if there is going to be a number two, you have to make number one as if you are swinging for the fences and it has to be a movie that stands and lives on its own. I really believe in what they’ve done and I’m excited to tell more stories, and we are already telling other stories in the streaming space with HBO Max. We are doing a Penguin show with Colin, which is going to be super cool and we are doing some other stuff too, but we have started talking about another movie, but right now we are just putting it out in the world and trying to enjoy this.”

Robert Pattinson is One of Three Batmans on The Big Screen This Year

The Batman Is on Target to Wrap This March Following a Prolonged Filming Schedule

While it is no secret that for the first time ever, we will be seeing three different actors donning the Batsuit simultaneously this year, with Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck both appearing in the role in November’s release of The Flash, and Robert Pattinson is making his debut next week and is clearly not going to be stopping there. While the future for both Keaton and Affleck could be limited, it seems that Pattinson’s younger iteration of the Dark Knight is where the future of the franchise lies.

Speaking to the BBC at the premiere, Pattinson said that Batman was the first comic book movie he discovered, before any other film of its kind, and to him, that was what started it all. He added, “You know, you just want to add to the legacy of the character really.” That certainly sounds like the words of someone who is looking to do quite a bit of work with the character, and he could yet become one of the most successful actors to have taken on the role, despite initial doubts when his casting was announced. The Batman officially debuts in cinemas on March 4th.
